Saturday night TV gets competitive

New BBC show The Voice won the ratings war against Britain’s Got Talent in the 20 minutes when the two programmes clashed on Saturday night.

The Voice, which stars a panel of mentors including Jessie J and, secured 2.3m more viewers than its ITV rival throughout that short time period.

‘It’s fantastic that viewers have responded so warmly to the launch of The Voice,’ says BBC1 controller Danny Cohen.

But it was Simon Cowell‘s BGT that averaged the highest number of viewers overall, with 9.3m tuning in versus The Voice‘s 8.4m.

BGT celebrates some brilliant acts,’ ITV director of television Peter Fincham tells Metro.

‘It’s fantastic that the series remains such a firm favourite with viewers.’

Though Simon was making his return to the panel after a year off from Britain’s Got Talent, the programme still lost 1m viewers compared to last year’s opening night.
