Viewers thought commercial sent out wrong message

The Advertising Standards Authority will not uphold complaints made about an advert starring Duffy.

In the Diet Coke commercial, the singer is seen cycling through a supermarket on a bicycle.

Eighteen viewers argued that it breached health and safety rules because Duffy didn’t appear to be wearing reflective clothing and her bike had no lights.

Another four complaints were made about whether it was irresponsible because children might copy her behaviour.

But the ASA say it will not take the matter further because of the ad’s obvious fantasy context.

‘[It represents] Duffy‘s fantasy, a scenario that depicted her escape from the pressures of stardom and far removed from the real world,’ says a Coca-Cola.
