Not guilty verdict given after conflicting evidence
The actor broke the jaw of Hayden Deol, 21, after the clubber allegedly made fun of his T-shirt during a night out in London on 21 May 2011.
Hayden and cousin Sab Deol, 21, were both punched by Tony but the EastEnder, who denied charges of GBH and common assault, pleaded that he’d done it in self-defence.
Following differing accounts of the incident by the cousins, the judge at Southwark crown court decided that there was no way to discover who really started the brawl and ordered the jury to give a verdict of not guilty.
‘Bearing in mind the markedly different accounts of these 2 young men, no jury could safely and properly be sure that the assault was unlawful in the sense that it was other than lawful and reasonable self-defence,’ judge Geoffrey Pegden explained.
Tony, 23, who plays Tyler Moon in the soap, claimed that Hayden and Sab were ‘acting like thugs’.
The actor then hugged girlfriend and fellow EastEnder Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning.
