Mary sounds off about fellow cooks

Mary Berry is usually kind to contestants on The Great British Bake Off and doesn’t like to see other celebrity chefs screaming and shouting on TV.

The baking legend – who is a judge on the popular show alongside Paul Hollywood – admits that she’s not a fan of potty-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay, 46.

The Great British Bake Off is family entertainment,’ says Mary, 78.

There aren’t many programmes where all ages can watch from beginning to end. Everything else is violent, cruel and noisy.

I hate Gordon Ramsay’s programmes, I don’t know if he’s been told it makes good television.’

Mary used to have similar feelings towards Jamie Oliver, 38, but she’s changed her opinion of him in recent years.

James Oliver is a joy,’ she tells Radio Times.

I saw him yesterday and he agreed that when he was 23 he was irritating, bumptious and over-the-top, but he’s made cooking fun.’

The Great British Bake Off is on BBC Two on Tuesdays at 8pm.
