Actress Karen Gillan's character Amy Pond exits the show tonight

Karen Gillan has revealed what it was like filming the emotional scenes in which her character Amy Pond leaves Doctor Who.

The actress, 24, has starred as the Doctor‘s sidekick since 2010 and her final episode of the hit BBC1 show will be broadcast tonight.

‘I didn’t hold it together for the full two weeks that we were shooting it,’ says Karen

‘I was crying at anything – anything! – not even sad things.’

Karen and the programme’s producers made the ‘mutual decision’ to have her character leave the show, allowing her to move on to work on movie projects.

Viewers can expect to see her real-life feelings come through when Amy finally makes her dramatic exit, which was filmed in New York’s Central Park.

‘When it came to the final scenes, everything that’s on the screen is real,’ Karen tells The Independent On Sunday.

‘It’s not very glamorous.’
