Paralysed by horror car crash
Lorraine Chase followed Pat Sharp out of the I’m A Celebrity jungle last night.
The Emmerdale actress – who achieved fame before Mark Wright was a twinkle in his daddy’s eye – was keen to go home.
She survived the Australian creep crawlies, though, and that’s just what Lorraine is, a survivor.
Brought up in tough south London, her dad Jumbo Parsons was in and out of prison, leaving her mum Joyce to support Lorraine and her sister Lorna.
My dad’s a rascal, but I love him to bits,’ reveals the actress.
Lorraine was also viciously bullied at Peckham School For Girls until a modelling break saw her land her most famous role in a 1979 Campari ad.
Set on an exotic island, a rich gentleman asks her: Were you truly wafted here from paradise?’ and she answers in a Cockney accent: Nah, Luton Airport.’
The ad was a massive hit and kick-started 27-year-old Lorraine’s lengthy West End and TV career.
However, tragedy struck in 2000 when her car plummeted 30ft off a bridge in Surrey, leaving her paralysed down her left side and needing her left ear sewn back on.
After being nursed back to health, she landed a role as Steph Stokes in Emmerdale in 2002.
She says: It came at a good time.
‘The crash left half of my face paralysed so it was great to get back to work and out of London for a bit.’
Never mind queen of the jungle, Lorraine’s definitely queen of the comeback.
