Channel 4’s Married At First Sight couple, Emma and Jason, divorce after he was found on dating app Tinder

We’ve all heard of love at first sight, but we never thought we’d see the day that we saw a couple get married at first sight.

But that’s exactly what happened when Channel 4 decided that science and statistics could provide a loving and lasting relationship between two strangers, better than us mere mortals can. Married at First Sight was born!

The nation was hooked by this social experiment and whether it would work or not, and when strangers, 31-year-old Kate Stewart and 34-year-old Jason Knowles met each other for the first time at the altar, it seemed like the idea was just crazy enough to work.

The fitness instructor and financial adviser seemed to have a natural and instant chemistry, and throughout the awkward wedding photo poses (there’s ALWAYS that squished group one on the stairs), cutting of the cake and the embarrassing speeches, the pair could’ve have been mistake for one that had known each other for years, not hours.

And just as viewers were eager to see how the couple got on through their honeymoon phase, the result of last night’s latest episode shocked us all with the heart-breaking twist.

In the pre-recorded final episode of the programme, it was revealed that Kate and Jason had split, about three weeks about he signed up to dating app Tinder, while they were still married. Ouch.

Jason said that he only re-downloaded the app when he knew that their marriage wouldn’t work: ‘It was probably more from my side than hers that it didn’t work. It’s not that I didn’t want to give it a go but I just definitely wasn’t feeling the feelings you should feel at the start of the relationship.

‘I made a decision after the honeymoon to end things.’

We are absolutely heartbroken. We thought they were going to be the new Posh and Becks. Ross and Rachel. Mickey and Minnie!

Kate found out her hubby was on Tinder after one of her friends spotted him on it.

He had already packed his bags to leave, but when he woke up, Kate was sat in the lounge of the house they were living in together in Bethnal Green, and she was not a happy bunny (understandably).

‘We sat in the lounge but Kate wouldn’t let me talk. She had a rant at me.’

‘At the end of the conversation she said: “By the way, you swiped right on one of my friends and I’m leaving’, before pointing at Jason’s bag and saying: ‘Apparently you are too.’

We’re not the only ones who were sad and disappointed that the pair’s relationship didn’t work out, as viewers shared their outrage of what had happened on Twitter, and #MarriedAtFirstSight was trending in the UK.

Jason and Kate were only one of two couples who ended up tying the knot on the show, despite Married at First Sight receiving 1, 500 applicants. Through the initial stage of the show, only couples with were had a match of 70% or more on genetic, psychological and physical tests, and even face shape and DNA compatibility, were proposed to get married together.

Three couples were matched, but with one pulling out before the wedding, the other couple, who got hitched on the show, are still happily married!

No-one had their hopes set high for 32-year-old Emma Rathbone and 33-year-old James Ord-Hume when they joked and laughed their way through how awkward of a situation their wedding was, but after 5 months, the couple are still together and happy as Larry.

Seems like there is some truth to science finding us love. Now, if only science could just pair us up with Ryan Gosling please…

Here’s why Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris are the best couple EVER!

See how well TOWIE couple Jasmin Walia and Ross Worswick REALLY know each other…
