Soap favourite to leave Albert Square
The 71-year-old plays Dot‘s husband Jim Branning and is shown on the show being taken into care.
John – who suffered a stroke in June 2007 – has already recorded the emotional scenes of his departure, which will be televised in May, and it was a tough moment for the cast and crew.
Dot, played by June Brown, 84, hugs her husband as they’re parted for good.
‘Dot‘s been struggling for a while and realises that she can no longer give Jim the care and attention he deserves,’ reveals an EastEnders mole.
‘She fell down the stairs and her friendship with Edward is also growing which makes the situation with Jim difficult.’
John has played the loveable character since 1996. He made sporadic appearances in 2008 and 2009 but was in Albert Square more regularly in 2010.
‘Dot discusses her decision and talks to Jim about him going into care for good. There were a lot of tears,’ the insider tells the Daily Mirror.
‘The feeling is that this is the end of Jim as a character because he won’t leave the home.’
