Funny man Paddy McGuinness will become part of the cast Coronation Street later this year
Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness has bagged himself a guest role on Coronation Street.
It was announced today that Paddy will be heading to the cobbles for six episodes later this year to – rather bizarrely – play a ‘wilderness survival enthusiast’ called Dougie Ryan – the mind boggles!
Paddy’s character, Dougie, will first be seen on our screens in August when he meets Corrie favourites the Tinkers and the Dobbs on a camping trip.
According to the official announcement: ‘It isn’t long before Dougie is putting Kirk, Beth, Craig, Chesney, Sinead, Tyrone and Fiz through their places with hilarious consequences.’
This isn’t 41-year-old Paddy’s first foray into acting. The Lancashire-born funny man has also starred in Phoenix Nights, Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere and most recently, ITV’s The Delivery Man.
‘Being asked to appear in Coronation Street was a very special moment for me. I can’t wait to get started. An iconic and much-loved show not just in the UK but around the world. The character I’ll be playing is very funny and I’m sure the Corrie fans will love him,’ Paddy revealed.
Meanwhile Corrie producer Stuart Blackburn added: ‘It’s an absolute delight to be working with Paddy who is a talented actor with a flair for comedy that will ensure he fits right in with the Corrie cast.’
And Paddy isn’t the only new face arriving on the cobbles this summer.
Earlier this month it was announced that former Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding will also be making a guest appearance during four episodes of the soap.
According to insiders, Sarah’s currently unnamed feisty character will ‘prove a real trouble-making fly-in-the-ointment – especially for Tracy Barlow.’
Clearly excited to crack on with filming – which is due to start next month – Paddy Tweeted a selfie of himself earlier today along with the caption: ‘Quick dressing room/bathroom pic before the show. Roll on Corrie.’
