Cher explains why her performance made her so upset

Cher Lloyd has revealed why she was sobbing after her performance of Shakespears Sister’s Stay on Saturday night’s X Factor.

The 17-year-old dedicated the poignant song to her late uncle Edward, who died unexpectedly last month.

‘It was my way of saying goodbye to someone who passed away,’ says Cher.

‘I couldn’t go to his funeral because of paparazzi and I feel very angry about things like that.’

The teenager’s interpretation of the song wowed the judges, with Simon Cowell telling her: ‘I think that was the performance of the series.’

Cher was also happy with the way things went.

‘Vocally, I thought it was my best so far,’ she tells X Magazine.

‘It was very, very emotional.

‘It was also a bit of payback to people who have been nasty to me, and also to show people I can sing.

‘I think I’ve proved my point now.’
