Actress Elisabeth Sladen loses cancer fight

Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen died yesterday morning after a long battle with cancer.

The 63-year-old starred as The Doctor‘s assistant between 1973 and 1976 and from 2007 she was given her own CBBC spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

‘I absolutely loved Lis,’ Russell T Davies, the creator of The Sarah Jane Adventures, tells the BBC.

‘She was funny and cheeky and clever and just simply wonderful. The universe was lucky to have Sarah Jane Smith, the world was lucky to have Lis.’

The Liverpool-born actress leaves behind her actor husband of 43 years Brian Miller and their daughter Sadie, 26.
