Simon isn't disappointed on the first show of the new series

Simon Cowell reclaimed his seat on the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel last night and made sure he had a tear-jerking first show to rival BBC series The Voice.

The audience at the Hammersmith Apollo got to their feet to applaud teenagers Charlotte and Jonathan who gave an amazing performance of The Prayer, an operatic Quest For Camelot song recorded by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.

Dubbed ‘the male Susan Boyle’, Jonathan Antoine, 17, from Loughton in Essex shocked everyone with his astonishing voice which was complemented by 16-year-old Charlotte Jaconelli’s.

Charlotte, I think you’re good, but Jonathan – you’re unbelievable,’ Simon, 52, told them.

‘I like the fact that this works as a duo, but I worry Charlotte whether you are going to hold him back.

‘My head would say to you Jonathan, dump her. And then my heart would say, “but there is something kind of magical at moments together as well”.’

Simon is really happy to be back on the BGT panel.

‘I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it at first, he told us. ‘There’s a big, big difference between being there from the beginning of the contest compared to just coming in and doing the live shows, which I did last year.

‘You don’t feel connected. Now I feel connected and I think the talent’s better now I’m back.’
