Check out the hopefuls battling it out to become The Great British Bake Off's Best Amateur Baker

The Great British Bake Off – filmed at the scenic Harptree Court in Somerset – is set to return to our TV screens for a fifth series tomorrow evening.

The ten-week show – judged by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood and presented by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins – sees 12 contestants taking part in a bake off where they compete to become The Great British Bake Off’s Best Amateur Baker.

‘I think it works as a show because it is totally honest and I always think we encourage people to bake. We stop and explain things. I think we’re teaching in a very subtle way,’ explains Mary Berry, 79, to The Guardian.

‘We stop our bakers and ask them what they’ve done. I think it works because people look at the bakers and think, “They’re just like my next-door neighbour, or my mum could enter that… or Lizzie, she could do it”.’

The Great British Bake Off returns on 6 August 2014 at 8pm on BBC1.
