Alexander Armstrong will host annual ceremony

The nominations for this year’s TV Choice Awards have been revealed – with Doctor Who leading the pack.

The sci-fi show has been shortlisted for Best Family Drama and stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan are up for the Best Actor and Best Actress gongs.

Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood is in the Best Drama Series category and lead John Barrowman is also nominated for Best Actor.

EastEnders faces competition from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Coronation Street to retain the Best Soap prize, which it won last year.

The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, Dancing On Ice and Strictly Come Dancing will fight it out for the Best Talent Show trophy.

The TV Choice Awards – to be hosted by Alexander Armstrong – will take place in London on 6 September.
