Producers promise a 'satisfying conclusion'

US show Ugly Betty has been cancelled.

The series, starring America Ferrera, will wrap for good when the current series comes to an end.

‘We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty‘s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion,’ say executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson in a joint statement.

‘We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.’

ABC says there are eight episodes left to shoot.

Ugly Betty debuted in the States in September 2006 and quickly gained a cult following.

But the show – which airs in the UK on Channel 4 – has recently struggled in the ratings.
