TV watchdog Ofcom could fine The X Factor

Ofcom has confirmed that it will investigate The X Factor following complaints about Rihanna and Christina Aguilera‘s saucy routines earlier this month.

During her performance of What’s My Name? Rihanna, 22, stripped down to a skimpy bikini-style outfit and made a series of suggestive dance moves.

Later, Christina, 29, took to the stage for a raunchy version of Express, a song from her new movie, Burlesque.

Ofcom have received 2,750 complaints while ITV have got another 1,500 from viewers upset that the peformances were aired before the 9pm watershed.

The TV watchdog will focus its probe on whether The X Factor broke the part of the broadcasting code that aims to protect children from sexualised content.

If the show is found to have breached the code, Ofcom could fine the programme makers and also ask ITV to air an apology.
