Judge gets emotional over contestant Mary Byrne's performance

Cheryl Cole wept when she heard X Factor contestant Mary Byrne sing in the Dublin auditions.

Supermarket worker Mary performed Shirley Bassey‘s I Who Have Nothing for Cheryl, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and guest judge Katy Perry.

Cheryl, 27, is seen wiping away tears after being stunned by the ‘incredible power and emotion’ of Mary‘s performance, telling her ‘that was my favourite audition in Dublin’.

The timid Irish singer is now being hailed as the new Susan Boyle.

Mary, 45, like Susan, 49, had always been too shy to go on TV before her X Factor audition.

Hard to impress, Simon, 50, was also taken aback by the single mother’s tear jerker.

‘I think, no, I know, you have an amazing voice,’ he tells her. ‘I don’t know why you suffer from no confidence.’

See Mary Byrne on The X Factor tomorrow night from 7.30pm on ITV.
