Singer Shirlena Johnson upset with decision

An X Factor contestant who’s already made it through to this year’s boot camp has been eliminated from the show on doctors’ orders.

On Saturday, viewers saw single mum Shirlena Johnson, 30, stun the judges with her bizarre version of Duffy‘s song Mercy.

But now it’s emerged she has a history of mental illness – and show psychiatrists fear her condition could worsen if she’s propelled to fame.

‘The welfare of contestants is of paramount importance and it has been agreed Shirlena Johnson should not continue,’ confirms an X Factor spokesman.

Boss Simon Cowell, 50, says it was a tough decision to make.

‘I’m devastated. It’s heartbreaking,’ he tells The Sun.

Shirlena desperately wanted to do this to make a better life for herself and her daughter. I feel she may now struggle to do that… But the advice I’m given is she can’t do the show.’

Shirlena – who has daughter Mariah, 3 – is gutted.

‘I’m very upset,’ she says. ‘I think people want to hear more of me and they will be disappointed by this.’
