Zimbabwean singer Gamu Nhengu wants to reach No 1
Gamu Nhengu features on a Christmas single for Scottish children’s charity Aberlour.
The former X Factor contestant, who lives in Clackmannanshire, recorded the seasonal number – written by her music teacher, David Clifford – three years ago.
‘From the minute I heard the song, I loved it,’ Gamu, 18, tells the Daily Record. ‘This is the first time I have done anything like this, so I was really honoured when Mr Clifford asked me to record.’
Where Will You Sleep This Christmas? is available for download on 13 December.
Simon Cowell has also offered an olive branch to the teenager and hopes to see her on 2011’s X Factor.
‘I want her to audition next year. I genuinely would like to help her,’ says Simon.
Gamu appeared at the MOBOs last month alongside the likes of Tinie Tempah and Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child – and she’s determined to find success.
‘There’s more to come from me, God willing,’ Gamu tells the Johannesburg Times Live.
‘Everything happens for a reason.’
After her controversial X Factor rejection by girls’ mentor Cheryl Cole, it was revealed that Gamu, her mother and her two young brothers were facing
deportation from the UK.
The family’s appeal is like to be heard on Friday at the Immigration Court in Glasgow.
