Emotionally and physically exhausted, the X Factor wannabe is wasting away
Behind the scenes on The X Factor the atmosphere is like ‘a pressure cooker’.
Several contestants have been struggling to cope with their new found fame – among them Katie Waissel, who’s said to be ‘wasting away’.
Insiders say she’s lost around 5lb since the live shows began.
Despite having had round-the-clock counselling and medical attention, the 24-year-old was reportedly ‘in pieces’ last week as the stress took its toll.
‘Katie hasn’t been well at all,’ a show insider tells Now.
‘She tried so hard to put a brave face on it all but she’s been physically and emotionally exhausted.
‘She wasn’t sleeping, was barely eating and has been ill for weeks. She fainted on the finalists’ visit to Topshop, fought a chest infection and had stomach pains and headaches too. Everyone’s worried she’s heading for a serious illness.’
After her second appearance in the bottom two, the wannabe even refused to get out of bed and her parents were summoned to the house to give her emotional support.
‘Katie’s been in a pretty dark place,’ reveals our source.
‘She’s been suffering panic attacks and nightmares and was in floods of tears.
‘Counsellors have been working with her on coping mechanisms but she’s putting a huge amount of pressure on herself.
‘Everyone’s hoping she learns to deal with the stress before it takes any more toll on her body.’
